Low quality of coffee is produced because the farmers are not fairly paid. They are paid less than they invested in farm so they are unable to get out of the poverty life. So the Fair Trade aim is to provide these farmers with their right and they are paid what they deserve. The prices can be volatile, when the prices of coffee fell low then it will create a lot of problem for the farmers and they will become unable to support their family and their farm, and high quality of coffee will not be produced. Due to the low quality of coffee most of the consumer will not enjoy good quality of coffee.
US introduced Fair Trade Certified coffee with purpose to ensure farmers, are paid fairly and the condition of the farmer do not become worst. The money will use in the better health care, education, ecological stewardship and financial independence. And loan will also be provided to the farmer for the better production and high quality of coffee. When purchase about one pound of fair trade coffee then the total amount will goes to the farmer, who produce the coffee. But the money will directly goes to farmer but it will go to the cooperative to which the farmer is belong to. The laws of the cooperative will be same for all the farmers. The total money will be divided among the farmers.
If a farmer join the fair trade coffee then he will have to face the advantages and disadvantages of fair trade coffee. the main benefit is that the money which will divide among the farmer, is double than they receive outside of the fair trade coffee system. The sale of 100 million pounds of fair coffee has been estimated in the US and this is going to increase. And now starbuck is offering fair trade coffee through Sam’s club outlets.
Fair trade coffee works on social and economic justice for the producer of coffee with to produce high quality of coffee. The drinkers are satisfied with the money pay for the sale of the coffee because the money goes for the help of these people who are very poor. And the coffee is from the farm which is not under the condition of Fair Trade coffee, is issued with certification. If we purchase coffee of Fair Trade then this money will support the poor farmer who is deprived from the basics of life.
