Jamaica

The governor of Jamaica, Sir Nicholas Lawes brought the first plant to Jamaica and cultivated in the hills of St.Andrew and with the passage of time this was extended to Blue Mountains. There was a lot of obstacle in the initial stage of the coffee industry. From the period of 1800 to 1840 Jamaica produced 70,000 tons annually which put the Jamaica the largest producer of coffee in the world.

The government of Jamaica established a Central Coffee Clearing House where the coffee was processed before export and high quality of coffee was produced. In 1951 a hurricane devastated a large property of Jamaica and only three processing plants were left in operation which was present in the Blue Mountains. A Coffee Industry Board was established in order to reform and regulate the whole process of the production of coffee. Three coffee processing plants were registered the named Blue Mountain Coffee in 1973.

Jamaica has a prominent position in the world for producing of fine quality of coffee. The points which are necessary for the well growth of coffee that it should be well and regular watered. Periodic coolness should be given to it during the time of growth. Blue mountain coffee grows at altitudes of between 2,000 to 5,000 feet. It grow on the estates of Mavis Bank, Silver Hill, Moy Hall. The coffee grows on any other part of Jamaica or on the Blue Mountain except the mentioned area can not called the Blue Mountain coffee. There are the only three places which are registered for Blue Mountain coffee. The Blue Mountain Coffee is only prepared from the beans of Arabica. The quality of Arabica beans is that it is very flimsy has great flavor and has less caffeine as compared with Robusta Bean.

Jamaica export their Blue Mountain coffee to Japan nowadays. Jamaica is a great place for tourist and a lot of people come from different part of the world and these tourists take with him to their country and through this way it is spread to other countries. These people harvest the coffee beans and then lay out in the sun to dry on the bamboo racks. Then it goes for roasting on a smoky wood fire and finally packs in plastic bags.

In the last year it was noted that the there was no fragrance, no aroma and no origin flavor of the coffee beans and has only taste of roasted. So the quality of the coffee beans goes down from the recent update.
