Colombia

In the beginning of the eighteenth century, coffee was introduced to Colombia. Four major cultivars are cultivated like Bourbon, Caturra, and Maragogype etc. the federation of Colombia has done great job to promote the coffees of Colombia. Coffee of Colombia is rich in flavor, heavy bodied, well acidity and aromatic. Colombia is also included in the list which exports high quality of coffee to other countries and produces about 12% of the coffee in the world.

Two main regions in the Colombia are famous for production of coffee. They are Medillin, Armenia and Manizales (MAM) in the central region and Bogotá and Bucaramanga in the eastern mountainous region. MAM coffees are heavy bodied, rich flavor and fine acidity. The coffee of Bogotá is less acidic than Medillin and Bucaramanga is rich in flavor.

In the world Colombia is in the 2nd position to export coffees but it is the biggest producer of Arabica coffee. Arabica is the highest quality of coffee. Coffee is the main source for the employment of the people of Colombia. There is Colombia Coffee Federation (FNC) which controls the quality and quantity of coffee. All the farmers are the member of FNC. It has been the successful federation and has experience of over 60 years. The FNC encourage and promote fair trade and they established such system that gives benefits to the farmers. There effort has made the Colombia the 2nd largest country to export coffee. Today Colombia is looking for organic coffee. It is a type of coffee which does not require fertilizer or pesticides.

In the South America, Colombia is the 2nd largest exporter of the coffee and most popular among the people of America. Coffee contributes in the export about 17.4% and mostly the coffee is exported to United States, Venezuela, panama, Peru, and Bolivia. Normally the height of a coffee plant is about 6 to 9 feet and mostly grown in caffetales.

The revenue of export coffee was raised to 1.6 billion in the year of 2004-05. it produced a great effect on the sector of coffee. Now the government of Colombia is looking to produce high quality of organic beans, which will create a positive effect on the export of the country and the revenue will also be increased. As it is a fact that coffee is one of the major productions of Colombia and it is a large source of employment for the people of Colombia. The government of Colombia is also going to introduce new variety of beans in the country to increase the export revenue of the country.
